Sudan has reached an agreement with Saudi-based Al Rajhi Group aimed at restarting the company's activities in the country's agricultural sector.
Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Professor Ismat Qureshi announced the development during a press briefing at the Omdurman Cultural Center, where he discussed the agricultural season and the country's food security situation.
Qureshi said intensive discussions with the group's management during his recent visit to Saudi Arabia had resulted in an agreement to renew the partnership.
Investment across agricultural value chains
The minister emphasized that Sudan's approach to agricultural investment focuses on supporting production value chains and strengthening the sector's productive capacity.
The government's efforts are intended to encourage investment capable of improving agricultural output and creating greater economic value from the country's agricultural resources.
However, no investment amount, project timetable or detailed list of operations to be resumed by Al Rajhi Group was announced.
Date industry also on the agenda
Qureshi also revealed plans to travel to Saudi Arabia in the coming days to participate in meetings of the International Dates Council.
He highlighted Sudan's interest in expanding its date-processing industry while acknowledging challenges affecting date cultivation.
The agreement with Al Rajhi Group represents another step in Sudan's attempts to restore agricultural investment partnerships and support economic recovery through productive sectors.
