Sudan’s Al-Amal Voluntary Return Committee said arrangements had been completed to transport civil servants and their families back from Egypt. The preparations follow a government decision requiring public employees to resume work within 45 days.

Public-sector return prioritized

Committee chairman Mohamed Wadaa said facilitating the return of staff to government institutions was a priority. The committee reported coordination with relevant authorities to organize transport for employees and accompanying family members.

Arrangements for students

Wadaa said the transport of higher-education students had been completed, while approximately 1,700 registered general-education students were still awaiting return arrangements. The committee also reported provisions for injured travelers and people with special needs.

Displacement caused by war

Sudan’s conflict, which erupted in April 2023, forced large numbers of residents to seek refuge in Egypt and other neighboring countries. Return efforts depend on conditions inside Sudan, including security, housing and access to public services. The committee’s announcement concerns specific arrangements and does not indicate that all displaced Sudanese nationals have returned.
