Officials from Sudan’s federal Animal Resources and Fisheries Ministry and the North Kordofan state government have discussed plans to strengthen the livestock sector. Undersecretary Ammar al-Sheikh Idris met regional authorities to examine recovery measures, production and potential export development.

Five-year state plan

The state governor said North Kordofan had prepared a five-year plan for livestock and related industries. The proposed program aims to improve production capacity, support local economic activity and increase the value generated from animal products. Detailed spending commitments and a final implementation schedule were not announced.

Meat and dairy priorities

The meeting addressed opportunities to increase meat and dairy output and improve compliance with international export standards. Officials also discussed holding a livestock-sector forum in El Obeid, the state capital, to explore priorities and coordination among stakeholders.

Importance for rural livelihoods

Livestock supports household incomes and regional trade in many parts of Sudan. Better transport links, market access and animal-health services are relevant to long-term recovery. The proposals announced by officials represent development plans rather than completed projects or confirmed new export deals.
